Other Wind Energy Organizations

There are many other organizations that do work around wind energy. Use the links below to visit them.

KidWind

From the KidWind web site:

"The KidWind Project is a team of teachers, students, engineers and practitioners exploring the science behind wind energy in classrooms around the US. Our goal is to introduce as many people as possible to the elegance of wind power through hands-on science activities which are challenging, engaging and teach basic science principles.

While improving science education is our main goal, we also aim to help schools become important resources for students, and the general public, to learn about and see wind energy in action."

Massachusetts Community Wind Collaborative

From the Collaborative's web site:

"Created in 2003 as a multi-million dollar statewide initiative, the Community Wind Collaborative (CWC) is dedicated to helping cities and towns tap into clean, renewable wind power. The CWC offers qualified interested communities technical assistance, wind monitoring equipment, data analysis, and competitively secured resources. Community-based initiatives in which the communities actually own local wind turbines are an excellent alternative to traditional developer-initiated approaches. Currently, more than 40 communities are exploring the potential for developing wind energy with us."

You'll find them on the web here.

Mid-Atlantic/ Southeastern Regional Wind Energy Institute

The Mid-Atlantic/Southeastern Regional Wind Energy Institute (RWEI) provides a means for state wind working groups in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia to better equip themselves with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively communicate and promote wind power in their states.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory is the U.S. Department of Energy's premier laboratory for renewable energy research & development and a lead lab for energy efficiency R&D.

National Wind Coordinating Collaborative

The National Wind Coordinating Collaborative (NWCC) is a consensus-based collaborative that establishes dialogue among key stakeholders and catalyzes activities to support the development of environmentally, economically, and politically sustainable commercial markets for wind power.

New York State Energy Research and Development Authority

According to their web site, "NYSERDA is working to build a vibrant renewable energy industry in the State through its programs working with industry, the renewable energy workforce, inspectors, and other associated businesses."

Northwest SEED

Northwest SEED is a regional non-profit in the Pacific Northwest that promotes community-based energy solutions.

Office of Energy Security - Minnesota Department of Commerce

The Office of Energy Security at the Minnesota Department of Commerce is working to move Minnesota toward a sustainable energy future, managing energy assistance funds, advocating in the public interest on energy utility rates and facility siting. We provide information and assistance to residents, builders, utilities, non-profits and policy-makers on home improvements, financial assistance, renewable technologies including wind energy information, policy initiatives, and utility regulations.

Plains Organization for Wind Energy Resources

The Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), with support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the North Dakota Division of Community Services (DCS), developed the Plains Organization for Wind Energy Resources (POWER) to serve as a regional center of excellence for wind energy.

You can find a map of the active and inactove monitoring towers in the Midwest as well as a database of wind resource measurements that have already been taken around the Midwest.
